I was excited to get this in the mail today. I’ve always be enamored with the art of the hand written letter and finding this website reminded me just how much I’ve always enjoyed the process of letter writing and receiving. When you receive a letter the traditional way I think you receive a little bit of the person writing it too. The care and attention required to complete the process: the intimacy of a person’s hand writing, being forced to slow down and carefully consider words chosen and using physical paper, whether it is quickly torn from a notebook or carefully chosen sheets from a stationary set, all add to the experience. There is effort involved.

I still have a shoe box full of letters from my best friends who lived next door. As kids, we’d write to each other about everything: what we had for lunch, what our dogs and cats were doing, plans for the weekend. And then we’d carefully seal our letters and trudge purposefully out the yard and hand deliver each envelope to each others mailbox. I miss that.

Shooting off an email is fantastic and convenient, but often we have hit the “send” button before we have really considered the content and often the spelling!
