I went to shoot sydney duo KYU on friday at an awesome live performance in the beautiful Old Museum building. Their beautiful layerfest of drums, vocals and pretty sounds was hypnotic to watch and I found it amazing that these two softly spoken girls could belt out the almost tribal sounds that they did.
You can hear some of their music here.

Last friday night I was sent to shoot chinese DJ B6, as part of the UpLate series at the Gallery of Modern Art. This was a little bit of a different experience for me. I’ve only just been getting accustomed to turning up to a gig in my comfy shoes and clothes, preparing myself for beer being flung at me, moshers smashing into me and the occasional abuse being hurled in my direction. Along with loud, LOUD music. It was a pleasant change to get dressed up, bring along a good friend and get some shots while casually enjoying some music and the exhibition of Valentino gowns that was on show. I only wish I could have also photographed some of the beautiful outfits but I guess you can’t win ‘em all!

i love Feist and finding this made me so happy.
“1, 2, 3, 4, chickens just back from the shore!”
+ This song is lovely also. it feels like a beautiful late night song meant for listening in the dark.
why do you cock your head to the side when you look at me?

Last night was epic. Great setlist. It was just awesome.
Some of my highlights:
- the generally mellowed out crowd. that being said, there were a few exceptions…
- hearing rear view mirror live. it’s one of my favourites, so bittersweet but full of hope. hearing it live with a chorus of 30,000 is amazing.
- security in the pit were friendly, refilling water bottles and checking on the crowd.
- hearing ben harper sing “i will not be broken”. beautiful.
- ben harper and ed singing bowie’s under pressure.
- getting some photos, even if only with a point+shoot.
it’s a shame the night was let down by equipment + sound problems during ben harper’s set and i heard from others that the music was somewhat lost up in the stands. but up the front, none of the intensity was lost and it kicked ass.
more of my photos from the night can be found here.
have a look here for some fantastic crowd shots.
