dreaming of apples

November 22, 2009

my efforts with this month’s NaBloPoMo have been sabotaged somewhat by my computer deciding it didn’t want to come to the party. it just jammed one night and refused to work again. when I restarted it, it wouldn’t load past the post screen. FRUS-TRA-TING! it has definitely been an exercise in patience. it now is finally working but we’re definitely not on speaking terms.
it’s always been on the cards for me to make the switch to Apple but i’ve just constantly put it off for later. it just seemed easier to upgrade my PC “for now” since I already had all my Windows-based software. i find myself constantly browsing the Apple website, drooling over the Macbook Pro’s and iMac’s. i’m also a little in love with the new magic apple mouse. and now that I’m also planning to upgrade my adobe software the timing seems to be right, no?
so, because I’m poor and can only daydream about my new future computer which is Apple and not PC, I have decided to set up the “Make the Switch” fund, with my first initial deposit of $20.
and just so I’m held accountable and don’t sneak some money out for lunch during the week, here’s a photo of said fund. that $20 better be there next time I take a photo!

my broken camera

twisted
i’ve finally heard back from canon about the state of my poor camera. It looks like the camera is a-ok and it’s my lens that’s actually cactus. something about the power diaphragm assembly? the lady i talked to on the phone told me she’d try and have it back to me in 5 days which is great, but it’s not covered by warranty like the camera is, so the repairs will have to be paid for. boo.

problems

Last October I was finally able to upgrade my tired Canon 300d to a shiny new 50d. It’s been fantastic to have this new technology that doesn’t lag or want to go to sleep at inconvenient moments! I’ve slowly been learning my way around all the (numerous!) features that come with this camera but in the last couple of days I’ve been experiencing some niggling problems. Frustratingly, every time I use my 17-85mm IS lens with the 50d I get a communication error that stops me from using the camera entirely. This happened once or twice before but now it won’t stop. When I use the camera with my 50mm lens, all is good. I even tried it on the old camera and it still works which leads me to think it’s the lens that’s at fault.

I’ve checked online to see what other people are saying and most people say it’s either the camera – or the lens. Wonderful! When I rang the camera shop they suggested upgrading the firmware to see if this will solve the problem so I’m in the process of doing this now. They seem to think it’s the lens. We’ll see how it goes.

Anyway, I’m off to have a cup of tea and then hop into bed. I’ll update what happens with my camera soon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
