of foxes and chickens

I found this beautiful little book yesterday called The Chicken Thief. It’s oh so pretty! AND it has two of my favourites: foxes and chickens. Together. Without any ghastly unhappy ending. There are no words, just beautiful illustrations by Béatrice Rodriguez.
When a fox steals a chicken from her friends, her friends set out to rescue her. They negotiate forests, climb mountains and cross the sea to get her back. But it becomes perfectly clear that chicken and fox love each other, as chicken explains most eloquently – in a book entirely without words.
I’ve always had a little bit of a soft spot for childrens books without words (1&2) They leave so much to the imagination and are different every single time you read them. If you ever see this book, take a few minutes to flick through it. I swear it will warm your heart instantly.
fotografia w praktyce amatorskiej

["PHOTOS: The Practice of Amateur Photography"]
My Dad recently found his old photography book Fotografia w Praktyce Amatorskiej by Zbigniew Pękosławski (from 1977) among his huge stash of books. He gave it to me in a present along with some old cable releases, light meters and other goodies.
It’s a fantastic old book with wonderful black and white photographs and technical diagrams and info. I especially love the last photo above of the old woman at the beach. She reminds me so much of my own grandma.
It’s been a slow read as my Polish reading could be better but I’m looking at it as a double bonus: improving my Polish AND reading about photography.
Mog

I picked up two cute books today. Do you remember ever reading about Mog The Forgetful Cat? He was my favourite cartoon kitteh as a kid. I especially used to love reading about Mog’s Christmas and I see a cheeky resemblance to my own naughty Stewie and his “adventures” with our Christmas tree.
Instead of regular merit awards, our primary school used to hand out awards at assembly called “MOGS” (“Makers Of Good”) and they had a picture of a cute little Mog sitting on the card next to the recipients name. I used to love getting them and I’ve still got all my “MOGS” filed away for safe keeping.
He’s such a cute little guy.
You can read here about the final book about Mog.
