spring cleaning

November 29, 2009

spring cleaning fever has hit casa chadwick. it was lovely to clean the deck and get it ready for summer. the hammock is hung and tonight i used our mosquito coils for the first time this year (boy, do we need them!) the smell of mozzie coils always reminds me of camping.

summer is almost here!

Last night was epic. Great setlist. It was just awesome.

Some of my highlights:

  • the generally mellowed out crowd. that being said, there were a few exceptions…
  • hearing rear view mirror live. it’s one of my favourites, so bittersweet but full of hope. hearing it live with a chorus of 30,000 is amazing.
  • security in the pit were friendly, refilling water bottles and checking on the crowd.
  • hearing ben harper sing “i will not be broken”. beautiful.
  • ben harper and ed singing bowie’s under pressure.
  • getting some photos, even if only with a point+shoot.

it’s a shame the night was let down by equipment + sound problems during ben harper’s set and i heard from others that the music was somewhat lost up in the stands. but up the front, none of the intensity was lost and it kicked ass.

more of my photos from the night can be found here.
have a look here for some fantastic crowd shots.

i thought that in the next few weeks i’d share some of my favourite places to visit on the net and what better place to start with than one of my favourite daily reads!

my favourite blog to visit for quite some time has been sandra juto’s. i love getting a glimpse into her daily life and it’s lovely to see all the details she notices in her daily wanderings. i’m all about the details. her photos are unassuming but acute and it feels like she really gets under the skin of gothenburg, the city she lives in.
i also love getting to see her daily creative process both at home and in her new studio.

sandra is so the bees-knees. have you seen her wrist worms? and her illustrations? she makes softies too.

i always feel happy after visiting her site. go have a look:
+her portfolio.
+her shop.
+and go here for her blog.
+she’s also on flickr.

click your heels twice

November 22, 2009

my niece came over for a visit this afternoon excited to show me her sparkly new shoes. she whispered in my ear quietly that she had princess shoes and wanted me to get my camera and take her picture. i told her about the wizard of oz and dorothy’s ruby slippers and i taught her how to click her heels just like dorothy did. i even told her, to her amazement, that dorothy’s shoes originally were silver just like hers. she was very impressed with this dorothy and said that she could be her friend if she wanted. too cute!

+ here is another famous pair of shoes brought to life!

dreaming of apples

November 22, 2009

my efforts with this month’s NaBloPoMo have been sabotaged somewhat by my computer deciding it didn’t want to come to the party. it just jammed one night and refused to work again. when I restarted it, it wouldn’t load past the post screen. FRUS-TRA-TING! it has definitely been an exercise in patience. it now is finally working but we’re definitely not on speaking terms.
it’s always been on the cards for me to make the switch to Apple but i’ve just constantly put it off for later. it just seemed easier to upgrade my PC “for now” since I already had all my Windows-based software. i find myself constantly browsing the Apple website, drooling over the Macbook Pro’s and iMac’s. i’m also a little in love with the new magic apple mouse. and now that I’m also planning to upgrade my adobe software the timing seems to be right, no?
so, because I’m poor and can only daydream about my new future computer which is Apple and not PC, I have decided to set up the “Make the Switch” fund, with my first initial deposit of $20.
and just so I’m held accountable and don’t sneak some money out for lunch during the week, here’s a photo of said fund. that $20 better be there next time I take a photo!
