milestone
March 28, 2009

i almost forgot an important milestone in our household: our little guy is turning one! it’s been such a fun year with Stewart joining our quirky little family. he’s become best mates with Ruby and is slowly winning Jade over. unfortunately my mum’s cat Lily just doesn’t want to come to the party. she has her reasons, me thinks.
anyhoo, I think after a year together we’ve all settled into a comfortable routine that no longer involves 4am wake up calls or (gentle) kitteh punches in the eye during the night demanding food.
happy birthday Stewie!
where the wild things are
March 26, 2009

watching the trailer for this today instantly took me back to my childhood and the fluttery butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling I used to get whenever I got excited or was looking forward to something big. what a perfect teaser! i like the choice of the Arcade Fire song in the clip.
did you know it was filmed in Melbourne?
go have a look here.
fotografia w praktyce amatorskiej
March 24, 2009

["PHOTOS: The Practice of Amateur Photography"]
My Dad recently found his old photography book Fotografia w Praktyce Amatorskiej by Zbigniew Pękosławski (from 1977) among his huge stash of books. He gave it to me in a present along with some old cable releases, light meters and other goodies.
It’s a fantastic old book with wonderful black and white photographs and technical diagrams and info. I especially love the last photo above of the old woman at the beach. She reminds me so much of my own grandma.
It’s been a slow read as my Polish reading could be better but I’m looking at it as a double bonus: improving my Polish AND reading about photography.
St Paddy’s Day parade
March 17, 2009

I was working in the City on Saturday and the annual St Patrick’s Day parade went merrily on it’s way past my work. I even spotted my friend Ronan participating in the march. I didn’t realise just how unbelievably deafening bag-pipes were until I had to walk past a rowdy pack of bag-pipers practicing before the march.
